Peaking through a hole in the wall at Local 31 boutique shines bright of beautifully painted traditional style tattoo images with a Costa Rican flair right next door. With my tattoo hunger flared, I quickly found myself walking through the doors of Good Life Tattoo. Owner Kawika Montoya has made a beautiful, clean home to his custom tattoo designs right in the heart of where Santa Teresa meets Mal Pais. The atmosphere is welcoming and chill. Within minutes I had my appointment scheduled and was off to our next stop.

I was greeted with a smile from the shoe-less, shirtless Marco and the sleeping shop dog.

After spending a couple of hours getting my tattoo and feeling fully satisfied with my work I highly recommend this shop for its clean and quality service.

LOCAL 31 : A BOUTIQUE

Don’t let the name fool you, this is not your typical craft shop peddling local souvenir’s to tourists.

On our first visit to Costa Rica, we discovered a wonderful little boutique: Local 31.  The artistic talents and global influence of owners Esteban and Charlotte, a globe trotting couple who have lived in various locations ranging from Mexico to Bali, is quite apparent. And if skulls are your thing, you will find some of the best representations here. All the while, Esteban and Charlotte work tirelessly on their project B.O.L.D., which aims to save endangered animals.

From jewelry to clothing and more, Local 31 is filled with unique and beautifully made pieces.

If you’re in the Mal Pais area, stop in to peruse the merchandise, and chat with the friendly owners. Thenget a tattoo next door, and some delicious fish caught that morning across the way.

CEMETERY:

Costa Rican Cemetery

Along the back roads from Santa Teresa to Montezuma we came across what felt like an abandoned grave yard but once you step foot inside you find life and love and a beautiful shrine to a local surfer who has passed on.
